Invitation to the Dance

April 25, 2015 by BHW

Between galaxies,
there is nothing.
Empty space.
Unmeasurably vast, deep expanses of a kind of nothing we can’t fathom,
can’t name.

The absence of all known matter
an uninhabitable obliteration that goes on and on and on
until
without warning
empty space shimmies up to the next galaxy
crowded with stars, dust and gas.
Millions of planets, moons, comets
Asteroids
Nebulae
Dust
Neutron stars
Black holes
Unseen dark matter.

Between lovers,
there is nothing.
Empty space.
Unmeasurably vast, deep expanses of a kind of nothing I can’t fathom
can’t name.

The absence of all known matter
an obliteration that goes on and on and on
until
without warning
my body shimmies up to you.
Stardust, moonshine, planets, comets
spiraling out from a central light and energy.

Your soul
creating
light I can see,
dark matter I cannot.

You want to see my face
in the light of the next full moon
a night you imagine my soul will come out to dance with yours.

I don’t know if I will survive the journey
or how long it will take to reach the shores
of your galaxy.

Wait for me.
I am dancing.
I am on my way.
