¿A dónde fueron? (Where did they go?)

April 16, 2020 by BHW

Where did they go?

At sunrise, street lights shine

I wait for the sound of sleepy children

going to school

but the streets remain empty.

Where did they go

the winter hats and jackets

the backpacks full of folders and books

crayons and glitter glue

ballet slippers and a crumpled soccer jersey?

I miss the unruly song that school mornings sing

the school-bus yellow that awakened my soul.

Lovely in either language. I’m impressed that you did it first in Spanish.
And it really goes with that photo of the teddy bear on the steps. And, in some ways, it also goes with Picasso’s Guernica. You are getting very good.

      Thank you.
Hadn’t thought of the purple plush toy and this – I suppose all is connected…
