Amaro di Ginone

December 26, 2022 by BHW

– For the Ring family

A few sips of digestif

balance the richness

prepare the body for rest.

Small bouquet of words

after baccalà mantecato on grilled bread

with the bright straw Vernaccia di San Gimignano

spaghetti alla chitarra con burro e tartufe

with deep Chianti Colli Fiorentino

orchestrated pairings

the joy of joy finding joy

song finding listener

traveler finding companions

an evening rich as the elements of the table.

The sweet golden brandy of the tenor’s voice ring

my ribs and sternum as the blood red bone of contrafiletto

becomes natura morta, allegory of hungers sated

for meat, connection, aliveness

accented and marked by unique histories

once-strangers suffused with sweet must

the bitter herb of the one whose heart stayed closed

the opening floral scent of lavender

the coarse bark of endearments

the honeyed orange peal of laughter

notes held in sweet equilibrium, burnished coppery

amber divine, sublime generosity

made kin for a night.

Bonnie, your writings are lovely and thought provoking. Interesting ideas and perspectives. Wish I took the time to read more of such things. Nice to read what inspires people’s writings. I like to write a little. Maybe one day you can help me construct some thoughts. Rick
