La Pérdida de las Sonrisas / We No Longer See Smiles

April 30, 2020 by BHW

We No Longer Can See Smiles

I climbed to the mountain peak

above the gloom

until I found the blue sky

and its promise of hope

finally I could take off my mask and breathe deeply.

While perched on the ample rock

I lay down on the blanket of clouds

silky as wordless lullabies

a soft gust of wind

brings a velvety darkness

to sing the children to a remote place

far away from the locked-in world.

From here

I trace the labyrinth of empty streets with my finger

follow the shadows of people with masks

look into their covered faces.

Above the clouds

herds of wild laughter run free

flocks of smiles fly in and out of formation

the air vibrates with joy revealed.
